With such a fascinating collection of relics found over the years from various major eras in history, the Worthing Museum and Art Gallery is well worth checking out. The exhibits include an impressive array of Roman Coins that have all been discovered in the local vicinity. Whilst the collection of historic tools, costumes and children’s toys make up a clear picture of local history too. In addition, local artist’s work takes pride of place in the Art Gallery as well as a series of interesting exhibitions that are held throughout the year.
Worthing enjoys a lively summer social calendar with bowling tournaments throughout most of July, August and September. May sees the arrival of the Rivers of Paradise Flower Festival, whilst the second week of June is dedicated to the diverse Durrington Festival. The Worthing Arts Festival takes place every July in conjunction with open-air performances of Shakespeare plays, courtesy of the highly talented Rainbow Theatre.
The English Martyrs Church, located at the Goring By Sea end of Worthing is no ordinary church. This place of worship is home to a stunning reproduction of the legendary painter Michelangelo’s most famous work of art, the painting of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican in Rome. Local artist Gary Bevan has successfully recreated this dramatic piece of art after a trip to Rome. The two third scale replica attracts its own steady stream of visitors to the church to witness this amazing site, making it a significant work of art in its own right.
Cissbury Ring is under the watchful eye and care of the National Trust and is one of the country’s largest examples of an Iron Age hilltop fort. Visitors to Cissbury Ring can enjoy an invigorating climb to the top of the fort where they are rewarded for their efforts by panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
Worthing has several sources of entertainment including parks, theatres, an excellent cinema and perhaps best of all, The Lido. Worthing’s Lido has bags of entertainment for the whole family such as children’s rides, amusement arcade games, summer concerts and shops. There’s also a popular bar area where you can relax and enjoy a few drinks whilst taking in the delightful sea views.
